A brief summary
![]()
To combine forest road data from land managers into a combined GIS forest road dataset. This data can then assist in landscape level forest road coordination. Some economic and environmental benefits of coordination include:
evaluating road network impacts on the landscape
determining best access to forest stands for management
additional road needs
roads to be eliminated or temporary closures
developing
cooperative use agreements

Identify scope
of project (met with county road committees and landscape program provided
oversight), collect GIS data from major forestland managers, combine data,
remove data with errors, look for areas missing data and attempt to collect
(get input from county road committees and participants), and put into
operation with coordination activities.
To date most of
the forest road data has been gathered and merged, and is in the process of
being looked over. A final data layer
will be available this summer to be utilized in forest planning.
