Ecological Classification System Levels

SUBSECTION
Subsections are subdivisions of Sections. The same characteristics are used to differentiate subsections as were used for sections but they are used  in more detail. 

There are 24 Subsection units (Figure 14) within Minnesota.

Figure 15 shows the strong influence that surficial geology had
on the development of subsections in Minnesota.

The map of elevation (Figure 16) is another way to show the relationship between surficial geology and subsections.

The original vegetation of Minnesota (Figure 17) was also used  to help develop subsection boundaries.

The DNR Website has a complete description of all of the subsections.  The Subsection level can be useful for natural resources planning at the regional and area levels.
