SECTION
Sections (Figure 8) are subdivisions of Provinces with similar characteristics such as:
bedrock features
land forming processes
types of glacial sediment
distribution of plant communities.

Figure 9 shows a very generalized map of soil materials that are a result of glacial or other land forming
processes; this map, along with vegetation, was used to delineate sections
in Minnesota.

(shaded relief) that helps depict how the section boundaries relate to
surficial geology.

The patterns of original vegetation of
Minnesota (Figure 11),
pre-settlement wetlands (Figure 12), and hydrography (Figure
13) were all influenced by surficial geology and are consequently stratified
to varying degrees by section boundaries.
